Balkan tour (October 2011)
In the October of 2011, me and my friend Gregory, travelled in Balkans. Gregory accompanied me with his BMW 1200GS. A trip 2.820 kilometers long which lasted 6 days. We started our trip from Patras (Greece), and we crossed the western part of Greece heading north, Albania, and after a visit to Dubrovnik(Croatia), we stayed overnight in beautiful Kotor, Montenegro.
Next day on the way to Serajevo, we crossed Bosnia i Herzegovina, and back to Montenegro where our goal was to explore National Park Durmitor. After that, we entered back to Bosnia i Herzegovina, and we drove up to Serajevo for a two nights stay. I was not much impressed from the city...
The fourth day of the trip was the best!!! The route from Serajevo to Belgrade, and especially the part from Serajevo to Visegrad, was the best route I have ever driven in Balkans. Entering in Serbia, I crossed, Mokra Gora and I visited Mechavnik (a village builded by Emir Kusturica). Just awesome!!!
One night was not enough in Belgrade, but the next day I drove south to visit the Monastery of Studenica, and right after the Serbian National Park Kopaonik. Nis(Serbia) was the next station. Nis is a beautiful small city. The next day was dedicated to FYROM. I crossed the National Park of Mavrovo in FYROM, which was very beautiful, and I stayed that night at Ohrid, a small city by the lake Ohrid.
The sixth day, was the last one of the trip, and I crossed the borders from FYROM to Greece from Niki border station, and Florina(Greece) was a very good pit-stop for a cup of coffee. The rest of the route to home was.....familiar.....
The route from Serajevo to Belgrade was the best part of this trip. In the second place was the crossing of the National Park Kopaonik in Serbia, and in the third place was the crossing of the National Park Durmitor in Montenegro. The best place I slept was in Kotor, Montenegro. A small coastal city, with a population of 13.500, which is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period.
I look forward to drive on this route again....
